Weather Report Suite - particularly "Let It Grow" - always brings me back to my mother's experience growing up on the Moccasin Canal in Washington County, North Carolina on the farm that the family had been tilling since the late eighteenth century, at least! We don't know when they arrived there or from where they came, but she was at least the 6th generation of Snells to be born there. Her father, Loomis Elwood Snell, had a harrow which he drew with mules over the fields until acquiring a tractor some time in the 1950s or early 60s. I still remember one of the mules stepping on my father's foot when I was little tyke.
"lightly sung, her song is the latch on the morning's door"
