Harrowings is dependent on paid subscribers to keep going, but I must admit that I can imagine that I’m not everyone’s cup of tea!
Listening to:
…which ends with “Here comes the end….Here comes the end of the world….” and isn’t it always that way? We are watching one world end and another begin.
Earlier this morning, I was struck by the photo taken 48 years ago by Voyager 1 on its way out of our solar system. It’s closing in on being a “light day” away from us now. Here’s the pic taken on September 18, 1977:

I got curious about how many people who were alive when this picture have died since then - the answer it came up with is 1.88 billion and then, of course, you could add all those who were born after it was shot and have now also died because no one is guaranteed 48 years. I’ve stepped over quite a number of bodies who I have known as incarnations during my 62 years. I was 14 1/2 when the picture was made. It’s something upon which to reflect. We are in the mix still, if you are reading this. Nothing to take for granted….
So it seems. Harrowings is struggling now. It’s not paying the bills. Perhaps that is not what it is for anyway. It’s designed to be my attempt to leave a mark. I scour up the surface of things as I gather impressions along my daily practice. It is a discipline too. It is “The Work” in the way in which G.I Gurdjieff related it in his articulation of “The Fourth Way.” It is my attempt to enlighten the path that others are taking - as we grope our way into the future.
I don’t know. I just know how things seem to me. It seems to me that art and culture of our species is what we are here to do so let’s keep on doing that. I am amplify signals through the noise of cyberspace as I pick them up and I inquire into the things that I perceive. I’m trying to open up a flow with those of you who are subscribers. I need your support.
I need your feedback.
I need to know what matters to you. What lights you up inside?
“I am looking for guests for “Harrowings Podcast” - we talk about our “harrowing experiences” and what makes us still get up in the morning and light up inside. For me, it’s about amplification of signal through the noise of cyberspace. Let’s talk! Let me know when’s good for you and I can usually adapt my schedule. If not, we can figure out a time that works for us. It can be long (Skip Healy holds the record) or it can be short (David A. Andelman holds the record for brevity). Let me know!
Eastern US Time slots are generally open or we can find a mutually agreeable time!

Onwards!
If you can’t become a paid subcriber, then please amplify our signal through the noise!
A beautifully melancholic meditation on time, purpose, and the quiet persistence of creative work. The Voyager image is haunting, a reminder of how fleeting our presence is, and yet how meaningful our attempts to leave a mark can be. Harrowings may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s precisely that raw honesty and philosophical depth that makes it resonate. Keep amplifying those signals through the noise, Hal. The world needs voices that dare to reflect, even when the lights flicker.
I enjoy reading what you write and have benefited. I try to support all of the people I subscribe to. Each person offers a unique perspective and helps me view the world and life in different ways. I appreciate what you are doing. I am unable to read everything but do what I can. Keep creating!
