“Harrowings” is my main instrument for the collection, preservation, protection, and publication of my late father’s work in support of the Harold B Gill Foundation. It is also a place for me to write about life here and now as well as my own past.
Today, Lynn and I are on our way down to Williamsburg to visit my mother. Since being widowed on April 7, it’s become clear that she isn’t able to live on her own and it’s an adjustment. I’ve been through a number of life changes as well, including doing what I can to steward my father’s legacy as mentioned. Last Friday, the first 12 16” cubes of boxed philatelic holdings were sent off to Connecticut via Federal Express. They should be there by tomorrow. I’ve moved a substantial amount of my father’s research materials and library here also. It’s a lot. It’s more than I can store in a DC condominium.
I’ve got a number of irons in the fire including this Substack and Lynn and I are OK for now - however, unless I can convert my creative work here and in other areas into gainful self-employment, I may soon have to take on another stint of what I have called “wage slavery” - and I’d rather work for you, my subscribers, than work for another contracting company for either a federal agency as I’ve been doing for the past 22 years. I’m doing what I am required to do in terms of certifying my status with the Virginia Employment Commission but that provides the barest income. That in itself is a job.
I’ve invited feedback from you all. I look forward to it. I’m soliciting suggestions.
