Memorial Day Observations
A view from "The Bunker"
Our species takes a peculiar pride in our dysfunctional way of addressing our issues through organized violence. It is worth mourning the fallen among those men and women whose lives have been sacrificed in armed conflicts the world over and all those who have served in uniform, willing to put themselves in harms way for their fellow countrymen. However, it is high time to stop creating more casualties.
Can we not see that war is a monstrous activity in which young men and women in uniform as well as many others who care about these individuals - as well as those simply unfortunate enough to be impacted by the fighting - are hurt and killed? Can we not see that this is horrific; one might even say harrowing? Yes, there can really be no good outcome to the violence other than still more violence until we are finally exhausted.
It’s time to stand up and listen to what is being said here. Let’s stop the celebration of violence and get into cooperation versus competition with our brother and sisters around the world. We simply have to have the will to do this. Wage Peace!
