Getting Underway
An Interview is in the near Future on Harrowings Podcast
I’m up! This reminds me of a meme seen some time ago which read “Due to unfortunate circumstances, I am awake!” Awake and aware, that’s what I try to be. I’m sensing:
Irresponsibility, I love the push back given here. For those who might not know, at 19 years old, Michael gave a lot of people a peak experience at Woodstock during “Soul Sacrifice” by Santana:
Music has a way of uniting us, particularly through rhythm. It all starts with the heartbeat. Being an old foundryman (my first gig out of college was at the Geddy Foundry in Colonial Williamsburg), I’m aware of how one has to have the bellows pumping to keep the old forge going, just as we have to keep on breathing to keep the plant working. We are a form of fire, after all.
I’m just back from a walk down to Daily Provisions where I talked with a friend who hails from Philadelphia. He’s led something of a “Forest Gump” kind of life, but who hasn’t, really? After that, I ordered my Egg and Cheese and Cappucino which, of course, was perfect. I assured the young man behind the register that I’d do all I could to be as early as I can be but no later than 6 PM to cover the closing shift. It’s what I can do. I made sure the manager knew too that this was the plan.
It’s good to serve. I’m wearing my “Seva - A Solution In Sight” T-shirt as we speak. My wife, having just had cataract surgery, is recovering and I’m to take her to an appointment for following up and then she wants to go shopping, so that’ll be keeping me from being able to take the whole closing shift.
Mundane, perhaps, this report, but in a short time, I’ll be going live again with a new Harrowings Podcast, this time with Bill Lemke who, with David Gans, has just put out a book called Aging Gratefully. While I’m awake, I try to cram a lot of life into my hours.
I had in mind to extend many of the thoughts that engendered this, but follow the rabbit holes that I’ve opened as I’ve scraped the surface of the day. Tell me what you think!
Let’s make this an invitation to conversation!
