Inspiration was again provided by
with her latest installment: “Goodbye to Summer, Hello to Fall” which gave rise to thoughts on “Harrowing” and what it means in terms of preparing the earth for a new cycle of creativity.Harrowing the land churns up the soil, aerating it, and preparing it to receive the rains and distribute that moisture more efficiently as it receives the seeds that will give rise to the next harvest. Churning up goodness and space for creative work is what this effort is all about.
I’m looking forward to capturing something of my inner life here even as I begin the process of collecting, preserving, and protecting my late father’s legacy. Photography is one angle for capturing “lightning in a bottle” (or, in the case of this auto-generated image, a jar) - another is through this exercise in writing. We are fortunate to be able to have a medium like this in which to work.
Earlier today, I had an hour long session working with Sunny Trippel, my vocal coach, who is helping me to find my voice after long leaving it fallow. I wasn’t in as good a voice as I have been in the past. We’re also working through some Bob Dylan material.
One would think that the singing of Dylan’s works wouldn’t be that challenging, but one would be mistaken - at least for me. Working through the King Crimson songbook was simpler.
Harrowing the fertile soil of the mind - that’s the work at hand. We are still in preparation. Slow and steady is the aim.
This is so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for your insight and wisdom and thoughtfulness. I love what you shared about working with the vocal coach. This is exciting :)) thank you again!!
