Thanks to
, , and providing comments to this morning’s offerings which touched upon the 30 Day Mental Diet, Pronoia, and how things happen FOR me, as opposed to TO me, I’m writing again. So, where’s this want to go? Let me listen for a moment. I hear the clock tick. We’re using time for fun! Now, that’s taking me straight to one of my great loves, music. In particular, a cover of Harry Nilsson’s “Jump Into The Fire” done by Marco Benevento and his trio which I will share with you now:
It was August 1, 2019 and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do, everytime I watch.
We can make each other happy no matter what life throws at us. This brings me back to my deceased father who I seem to be refusing to let rest. His final post on Facebook was of a small bear kind of dancing around on a mountain road with the caption “Don’t Forget to be Stupidly Happy for No Reason from time to time” - and I really need to reinforce that in all things. My father was an interesting individual. He was scholarly, reading all the time it seems. He left a notebook in which he left a record of the books that he had read between March 2008 or so and his death in 2024. In 2010, he underwent radiation treatment for prostate cancer which was successful but left him without much joy in eating, although he managed to recover some zest for it.
Another thing he would tell me as he moved through his final couple of decades is that life became increasingly beautiful, the longer he lived. I did my best to help him enjoy what he could and we built a substantial philatelic collection which went to auction last fall to help with Mom’s care. A charming thing that would happen when he slept was that he’d dream jokes and wake himself up laughing at them. This seems to me to show a really good spirit. We can all take something from that. Dad was a research historian first and foremost though. He would tell me that “If it is printed, it’s suspect. No one every publishes anything without an axe to grind. It costs money to print too so remember that and always treat anything that is published with a degree of skepticism. Go back to the sources if at all possible or as close as one can get. He’s right about this and we could all do better at doing our own research.
While we are doing it, let’s make each other happy! Of course, nothing would make me happier than having y’all put your money where your mouths are in becoming paid subscribers if you aren’t already! That will help me and my wife, by extension, so much. Now, the algorithm of YouTube has served this up serendipitously
Time has come today!
‘A charming thing that would happen when he slept was that he’d dream jokes and wake himself up laughing at them’
